Alburtis Incident
1-16-2008, Alburtis Ave x Telegraph Rd, Firefighters put out a stubborn non-injury fire Wednesday at a Santa Fe Springs picture framing business without sprinklers, authorities said. The third-alarm fire at Excel Picture Frames, Inc., 9846 Jersey Ave. was reported at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday and knocked down by more than 50 firefighters shortly before 1 a.m., Santa Fe Springs Fire Department Chief Alex Rodriguez said. "Residents nearby came out and saw smoke and fire coming out of the building and called 911," Rodriguez reported at the scene of the blaze. Rodriguez said that firefighters faced difficulties battling the blaze and had to use handlines -- hand-held hoses -- near the north side of the building, where power lines came down into a small alley close the structure. The two-story 100-feet-by-100-feet structure was not equipped with fire sprinklers, he added.
